Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign is a great alternative option to former traditional metal braces. Invisalign tends to be less painful and much more convenient, making your treatment easy. However, with such ease, many of our patients can lose sight as to how to get the most out of their orthodontic treatment. In the following article, we have compiled a few tips and tricks to make sure that your Invisalign does what it’s supposed to as quickly as possible, to finally get the smile you’ve always wanted.

1. Floss every day.

Even though you can be brushing every day, many forget to floss. With Invisalign, flossing is more important than it ever has been. These plastic aligners hold leftover food after your cleaning routine right up against your teeth and gums. The plastic from the aligner prevents saliva from doing a lot of the work it does naturally. This is why it’s important to keep your teeth and all in between thoroughly clean.

2. Stick to the 48-hour instruction.

When you first begin treatment, the initial 2 days of each aligner tray, are the most important. Most orthodontists recommend only taking out your aligner to brush your teeth, and of course putting it right back in. Be sure to wear your aligners as much as possible.

3. Commit to wearing them at least 22 hours every day.

Invisalign only works fast if you wear the trays for most of the day. If you find it hard or are unwilling to wear them for at least 22 hours every day, then you are much less likely to get fast results from Invisalign.

4. Change your aligners on time and in the right order.

Your orthodontist is your resource to tell you when to change your liner. If your orthodontist suggests it, be sure to do it. Don’t let it sit on for a few more days, and don’t try to change plastic aligners before their instruction. By doing either of these things, you are hindering Invisalign from working most effectively.

5. Know that it feels a little weird, but you will get used to it.

Initially, Invisalign will feel weird. The aligners work by pushing against the teeth, and while it is not painful, it is a new feeling that you may have never felt before. By wearing your liner all day, you will, over time, notice the feeling less and less.
